If you are a beginner or an applique lover already who has never tried the needleturn method, then this class is for you. Needleturn applique eliminates time-consuming preparation and brings you directly in touch with your fabric, needle and thread.

We will be covering fabric and pattern preparation and the tack stitch. You will learn to make smooth curves, perfectly round circles and beautiful inner and outer points.

Session II will cover quarter-square triangles and hourglass units. Both sessions will include the same tips on pressing and sewing that will help improve your precision piecing technique.

This course is appropriate for the experienced quilter or students who have completed Cheryl's Intro to Quilt Piecing.

Over the course of six classes, the student will construct several 12" blocks that can be set into a small sampler quilt. The sampler is a valued way to learn quiltmaking. In the first session of classes, you will learn precision quick-cutting, machine piecing techniques and unit construction while making 3 basic quilt blocks--the four patch, nine patch and snowball. In the second session, you will learn more complicated piecing techniques including half-square triangles and quarter-square triangles. The last session will cover setting blocks together, borders, layering and basting, quilting options, and finally, binding techniques. Emphasis will be placed on precision and the "tricks of the trade" to insure future quiltmaking success. The instructor will demonstrate techniques and the student will have time to practice, but homework may be necessary to complete the project.

This is a day long seminar using Maria Peagler's book, "Color Mastery: 10 Principles for Creating Stunning Quilts." The participant will study the 3 ingredients of color, create a color journal and learn to identify 6 color wheel recipes. At the end of the day, we will mock up a few harmony quilts, but no sewing machine is necessary.

We will be featuring a new Block of the Month program beginning in January of 2011 entitled The Civil War Chronicles. The pattern was designed by Homestead Hearth and uses fabrics of the same name designed by Judie Rothermel. The 108” x 108” quilt tells the stories of twelve women married to Civil War military commanders and the struggles and sacrifices they endured while their husbands were away.
