Beginning Quilt Piecing
Session 1 on Thursdays, October 28th AND November 4th.
Session 2 on Thursdays, November 11th AND November 18th.
Session 3 on Thursdays, December 2nd AND December 9th.
Cost is $40 per session (two 4-hour classes) or $110 for all 3 sessions (total of 6 classes, 4 hours each). The student is also required to purchase Cheryl's notebook of techniques and patterns for $25. This will be distributed in class.
Over the course of six classes, the student will construct several 12" blocks that can be set into a small sampler quilt. The sampler is a valued way to learn quiltmaking. In the first session of classes, you will learn precision quick-cutting, machine piecing techniques and unit construction while making 3 basic quilt blocks--the four patch, nine patch and snowball. In the second session, you will learn more complicated piecing techniques including half-square triangles and quarter-square triangles. The last session will cover setting blocks together, borders, layering and basting, quilting options, and finally, binding techniques. Emphasis will be placed on precision and the "tricks of the trade" to insure future quiltmaking success. The instructor will demonstrate techniques and the student will have time to practice, but homework may be necessary to complete the project.
